PURPOSE:To effectively record information by forming a first phase by the successive laser light irradiation of a first level and forming a second phase by the laser light irradiation through a pulse string composed of plural pulses of a second level higher than a first level to one bit. CONSTITUTION:The laser light is irradiated with a first power P0 to the recording part of the information of '0' and the laser light by the power P1 of a level higher than the first power P0 is irradiated to the recording part of '1' with plural pulse strings to the one bit. In this case, at a position corresponding to a part between the recording parts '0' and '1' and between the pulses of the respective pulse strings, the interval of a power P01 low in level is disposed to generate a quenching on the respective pulses and effectively form the second phase, namely an amorphous part. In a part where a heating in a low level having no pulse string is executed, a gradual heating is performed, so that the crystalline part of the first phase is effectively formed. Thereby, a phase change is effectively executed and a high contrast between both the phases is obtained.
