PURPOSE:To dry and burn refuse with high efficiency without rapidly generating a large quantity of combustion gas, by a method wherein a refuse heating means to heat refuse to a temperature higher than its ignition temperature and a far infrared ray generating means to generate infrared rays are provided, and refuse is irradiated from its surface with infrared rays. CONSTITUTION:Refuse 5 is charge through a charge port 2a in to a ceramics container 3, and when, by energizing a heater 4 with the refuse 5 mounted on tray 6, the ceramics container is heated to increase its surface temperature to a value higher than 35 deg.C, the refuse is irradiated with infrared rays being most apt to be absorbed by water. The surface of the refuse is fist dried and burnt by means of infrared rays and a radiant heat from the ceramics container 3, and combustion of the refuse to its center is performed as partial dry and partial combustion are repeated. Combustion gas is exhausted to the outside of an outer casing 2 through an exhaust duct 13 by means of an exhaust passage 11. The combustion gas is re-burnt in a deordorizing device 12 to remove malodor. By feeding the cold open air through a feed duct 14 through rotation of a fan motor 15, the temperature of the combustion gas exhausted through the exhaust duct 13 is decreased.
