PURPOSE:To prepare the title surfactant capable of rapidly stopping its functions after effectively functioning as a surfactant by using a compd. having an allyl group and shown by a specified general formula as the effective component to prepare the nonionic surfactant. CONSTITUTION:Allyl glycidyl ether is allowed to react with propylene glycol by heating in the presence of a catalyst, and an alkylene oxide is further added to the obtained reaction product by a conventional method to produce a surfactant. The surfactant is a compd. shown by formula I [R is a hydrogen atom. or a methyl group, A is a 2-4C alkylene group or substituted alkylene group, (l) is an integer of 1-300, (m) is an integer of 1-5, (n) is an integer of 1-300, (p) is an integer of 0-5, and (q) is an integer of 0-300].
