PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for personnel in a station when the automatic recording type measuring circuit is used by using a start signal at the station where a PCM multiplexer is installed so as to recognize the test line automatically. CONSTITUTION:A start signal is sent from a start signal generator 14 through a switching circuit 16 to a metallic line 17 to be tested at the start of test at first. A control circuit 22 of a station side 12 designates a time slot to be separated sequentially to a separation circuit 20 and the separation signal is sent sequentially to a start signal detection circuit 21. In the start signal detection circuit 21, when the signal from the circuit 20 is decided to be a start signal, a coincidence signal is sent to the control circuit 22. Since the signal separated from the circuit 20 is fed to a measuring circuit 23, the switching circuit 16 of the station 11 is switched to the position of a test signal generator 15, then a signal from the test signal generator 15 is inputted to the measuring circuit 23 and the circuit 23 measures the characteristic of the test signal to confirm the characteristic of the metallic line 17.
