PURPOSE:To improve horizontal resolution, by reading out a luminance signal written in a storage means by a second frequency lower than a first frequency, and recording a frequency band-compressed luminance signal on a video tape wound at an angle >=180 deg.. CONSTITUTION:After a write means writes the luminance signal by the first frequency on the storage means, the luminance signal written on the storage means by the write means is read out by the second frequency lower than the first frequency, then, the frequency band-compressed luminance signal can be obtained. Next, the frequency band-compressed luminance signal read out by a read means is recorded on the recording track of the video tape wound at a prescribed winding angle >=180 deg.. Therefore, the frequency band-compressed luminance signal can be recorded on the recording track longer than a conventional one. In such a way, it is possible to record a television signal with higher horizontal resolution.
