PURPOSE:To perform the optimum photometric operation even when there are many high or low brightness regions in a photographing surface, by selecting predetermined operation formulae in accordance with the max. and min. levels among brightness data in a plurality of regions and operating a photometric value using said operation formulae. CONSTITUTION:A field to be photographed is divided into a plurality of small regions and the brightnesses of said regions are detected by photodiodes A1-A8 and the output voltages V1-V8 passed through logarithmic compression circuit B1-Bg are inputted to an arranging circuit 8. The arranging circuit 8 compares the magnitudes of the output voltages to rearrange the voltages according to magnitude and outputs the same from output terminals O11-O18. A photometric value operation circuit 9 selects one operation formula from an operation formula containing only low brightness data among a plurality of brightness data, an operation formula containing only relatively high brightness data and an operation formula containing all of brightness data in accordance with the brightness levels of the min. and max. values among the aforementioned brightness output data and operates a photometric value on the basis of said operation formula.
