PURPOSE:To attain a delicate setting completely even with a finger being in a sweat by tensing an endless cord between two pulleys and providing a rotary encoder so as to generate an output in response to the quantity of movement of the endless cord. CONSTITUTION:A rubber-made belt 14 is tensed between pulleys 6, 8 as an endless cord, and the part is projected from a long hole 4 to the outside of a panel 2 so as to turn the belt 14 by a finger. Small projections 16, 16... are provided to the surface of the belt 14 at a prescribed interval each. A drive shaft of the rotary encoder 20 is coupled directly to a shaft 6a of the pulley 6. In the case of varying the setting value of an electronic instrument or a recording mixer, when the part of the belt 14 projected from the long hole 4 is driven by a finger in a direction, the pulleys 6, 8 are driven in the same direction of the belt 14 to drive the rotary encoder 20 also in the same direction.
