In an embossed identity card made from a piece of PVC, a thin film of material which can take up a sublimable dye is laminated onto the side of the PVC where the embossing allows a raised relief to appear. Pref. the material is a film of polyester or polypropylene. The card is a laminate 0.76 mm thick, comprising a PVC card 0.65 mm thick, and a polyester film 0.11 mm thick including a 0.01 mm thick bonding coating between the card and the film. In prepn. PVC card is printed with a text, an adhesive coating is applied, a thin film of polyester or polypropylene is laminated into the coating, the laminate is embossed with identifying data so that the data appear in raised relief in the polyester film, and a sublimable dye is applied to the raised relief. |
