PURPOSE:To reduce the generation of the thermals load of an ignition plug and to provide an increased life, by a method wherein a pilot gas injection valve and an ignition plug are disposed in a small pocket situated to the combustion chamber surface of a cylinder cover. CONSTITUTION:A small pocket 10 is situated in a cylinder head 03, and a pilot gas injection valve 11 and an ignition plug 08 are disposed in the small pocket 10. Pilot gas injected from the injection valve 11 is ignited in the small pocket 10, and a jet flame is injected in a combustion chamber to ignite a main gas jet 07. Since the electrode of the ignition plug 08 is not protruded directly in the combustion chamber, a thermal load to the ignition plug is reduced. |
