PURPOSE:To reduce the amount of a material not made into fibers contained in fibers while maintaining high fiber-forming ability, setting a fiber collecting duct between a spinner of a multi-stage rotary drum type in a fiber-forming chamber and a net conveyor. CONSTITUTION:A fiber collecting duct 1 having an opening to receive most of the main stream of plenum air is set in such a way that the duct opens approximately in front of a drum 2 of a centrifugally fiber-forming device of multi-stage rotary drum type and the other end of the duct 1 opens above a net conveyor 7. An inorganic melt 6 of a raw material is fed from a trough 5 to a tread face of the drum 2, blown away and made into fibers. High-speed air is fed from a plenum air slit 3, only fibers having low specific gravity are introduced into the fiber collecting duct 1, piled on the net conveyor 7 and made into a layer short fibers 8. A material not formed into fibers is dropped on a conveyor 10 and discharged.
