PURPOSE:To obtain a contact which can switch a large current by inserting a rod for a current switching contact consisting of Cu or Cu alloy on the inner side of a cylinder consisting of Ag, W or Ag, WC. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder 5 of arc resistant contact material consisting of Ag, W is disposed in a rod 4a of pure copper at a distance from both ends, and the length of the rod 4a is compressed by a press, so the cylinder 5 is fixed at the center of the copper rod 4. Then they are inserted into a die-set die 6, and the rod 4a is compressed under pressure for causing plastic deformation of it by means of an upper and a lower punch 7, 8, and after the cylinder 5 is tightly attached with the copper rod 4a completely at the top and bottom and from the inner side, they are taken out of the die. After a boring work is applied in the axial part of the copper rod 4a, they are heated and kept at a temperature lower than the lower fusing point of the material, so eutectic diffusion layer of Ag.Cu is formed on the boundary of both cylinders, and finishing work is applied including circular grooves 10, so an electric contact of a cylindrical form is obtained. A large current can thus be switched.
