PURPOSE:To attain recording and reproduction of a sampled video signal intermittently and a consecutive audio signal by recording a video signal for one frame or one field period and an audio signal compressed during this period alternately, and expanding the audio signal after reproduction. CONSTITUTION:Video signals V1, V2... of one field sampled intermittently are delayed by one field and the audio signals A1, A2... compressed during one field period and the delayed video signals are recorded alternately on a magnetic tape. After the reproduction, the audio signal is expanded, and the recording and reproduction of the consecutive audio signal without deviation is attained in addition to the video signal sampled intermittently.
