PURPOSE:To rapidly execute the recording or reproducing action by providing a means to move and control a head for recording or reproducing to a position to execute the recording or reproducing after a recording medium is fitted to a rotating driving part without fail. CONSTITUTION:When a cassette is inserted from a frontage part 31f of a holder 31, and an external cover 35 is further pushed into a position equivalent to a cassette fitting and sheet fitting completing position, the center core of a sheet is energized to a spindle 6 side by a tip protruding part 38a of a late spring provided at the external cover 35, and when fitting is completed, energizing is released and the external cover 35 is locked by pins 36a and 36b and lock levers 21 and 23. When the center core of the sheet is fitted to the spindle 6, a switch is turned on, a magnetic head is moved to the position determined beforehand for the recording or reproducing, and a driving motor starts to rotate.
