PURPOSE:To obtain an anodic oxidizing soln. for forming an oxide film having superior corrosion and wear resistances on the surface of Mg or an alloy thereof by dissolving silicate, carboxylate, alkali hydroxide and fluoride in water. CONSTITUTION:An anodic oxidizing soln. for Mg or an alloy thereof is prepd. by dissolving about 5-65g/l (expressed in terms of SiO2) silicate, about 10-120g/l carboxylate, about 25-250g/l alkali hydroxide and about 1-40g/l fluoride in water. About 2-50g/l borate or chromate may further be dissolved as required. Li or K salts are suitable for use as the silicate, carboxylate and fluoride and KOH is suitable for use as the alkali hydroxide. When Mg or an alloy thereof is anodically oxidized with the anodic oxidizing soln., a forsterite-based hard glassy oxide film having superior corrosion and wear resistances and fine decorativeness if formed on the surface.
