PURPOSE:To improve the gas retentivity and moldability of resin particles and to improve the flexibility and solvent resistance of a foam, by copolymerizing acrylonitrile with a monomer having a solubility parameter smaller than that of acrylonitrile and a monomer copolymerizable with these two monomers. CONSTITUTION:This synthetic resin foam is formed by expanding a copolymer comprising 15-50wt.% acrylonitrile, 10-40wt.% monomer (A) of a solubility parameter <=9.0(Cal/cc)<1/2> and 10-75wt.% other monomers (B) by heating together with a blowing agent. As said monomer (A), 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and/or butyl acrylate are desirable. As said monomer (B), styrene and/or methyl methacrylate are desirable from the viewpoint of gas retentivity and expandability.
