PURPOSE:To provide the title compsn. for double-frequency drive which is large in the absolute value of dielectric anisotropy in both low-frequency and high-frequency regions and low in the crossover frequency and hardly brings about low-temp. deposition, and is small in the temp. dependency. CONSTITUTION:1-70wt.% (hereinafter simply '%') compd. of formula I (wherein R1 is a 1-10C alkyl; and R1 and R1' are each alkoxy) is mixed with 1-70% compd. of formula II (wherein R2 and R2' are each R1'), 1-70% compd. of formula III (wherein R3 is R1; R3' is R1'; and X1 and Y1 are each H, CN, Cl, or F), 1-30% compd. of formula IV (wherein R4 and R4' are R1'), and 1-50% compd. of formula V (wherein R5 is R1'; X2 and Y2 are each CN, Cl, or F; and formula VI is a group of formulae VII and VIII).
