PURPOSE:To obtain expandable resin particles which can give a foam maintaining improved performance for a long time and having uniform cells, by suspending expandable resin particles and a modifying agent in water as a medium and applying a specified pressure to this system at a specified temperature. CONSTITUTION:Expandable resin particles are impregnated with a modifying agent in an aqueous suspension in a temperature range of the melting temperature of the expandable resin particles + or -20 deg.C and a pressure range of 0.1-20kg/ cm<2>G. As said expandable resin particles, particles of a polyolefin resin and/or a crosslinked polyolefin resin are usually used. Although any modifier may be used as said modifier so far as it can be dispersed in water with or without the aid of an emulsifier, those having melting temperatures lower than those of the expandable resin particles and being difficultly soluble in water are desirable. Examples of such modifiers include additive-type flame retardants (e.g., phosphate ester) and antistatic agents (e.g., polyoxyethylenealkylamine).
