PURPOSE:To obtain an initial key for a recognition and an interpretation by sorting extension lines in a horizontal and a vertical directions and defining the extension line having the maximum number of arrows for connecting them to be the reference position of an object drawing. CONSTITUTION:According to the identification of the type of the line of the drawing, the data of the extension line and a dimension (arrow) is delivered to an interpreting part for every drawing. In the interpreting part, from the list of the extension lines for setting the reference, the numbers of horizontal lines 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 are selected. The arrows connected to the respective extension lines are counted, the absolute value of the number of respective directions is defined to be the number of the connections of the arrows from the value totalled for every direction of the extension lines and the extension line having the maximum number of the connections is defined to be the reference. The number 4 situated externally of the numbers 4 and 8 is used. Thereby, the vertical and horizontal references are indicated and the intersection thereof can be defined to be a reference point.
