PURPOSE:To detect the occurrence of an error quickly at the reception side from the sender side by sending one page of picture information while dividing it in the unit of blocks of a prescribed quantity and sending a prescribed tone signal from the receiver side to the sender side at the occurrence of an error. CONSTITUTION:In sending picture information from a facsimile equipment 1 at the sender side to a facsimile equipment 1 at the receiver side, the picture information of one page is divided in the unit of prescribed blocks and sent by a block transmission/reception section 15a. When the error at reception is detected by a reception error detection section 15c at the receiver side, a prescribed tone signal is sent from a low speed MODEM 16b by a tone sending control section 15d to the sender side and the reception processing is stopped immediately. On the other hand, when the tone signal is received by the sender side, the transmission processing is stopped immediately. Thus, the sender side can detect the occurrence of an error at the receiver side quickly.
