PURPOSE:To economically and advantageously obtain the titled salithion useful as an insecticide for fruit trees and vegetables, by reacting a specific thiophosphoric acid chloride with a boron hydride compound in an aqueous solution of an alkali. CONSTITUTION:(A) 0-methyl 0-2-formylphenylthiophosphoric acid chloride expressed by formula I is reacted with (B) a boron hydride compound expressed by the formula MBH4 (M is alkali metal atom) (e.g. sodium boron hydride) in (C) an aqueous solution of an alkali (e.g. sodium carbonate), e.g. at -20-50 deg.C for 1-24hr, to provide 2-methoxy-4H-1,8,2-benzodioxaphosphorin 2-sulfide expressed by formula II. Furthermore, e.g. the component (A) is preferably obtained by reacting salicylaldehyde expressed by formula III with methyl thiophosphoric acid dichloride expressed by formula IV in an aqueous solution of an alkali.
