PURPOSE:To decrease drop-outs and to obtain a recording medium having an excellent traveling property and traveling durability by incorporating a copolymer of a vinyl compd. having a nitrogenous heterocycle and vinyl chloride into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium having a nonmagnetic base and the magnetic layer contg. fine ferromagnetic powder dispersed in a binder on said base contains the copolymer of the vinyl compd. having the nitrogenous heterocycle and the vinyl chloride in the magnetic layer. The nitrogenous heterocyclic compds. of the vinyl compd. having the nitrogenous heterocycle which is the component of the copolymer to be used include N vinyl pyridine, vinyl imidazole, N vinyl carbazole, vinyl pyrazine, N vinyl pyrazoline, 2-methyl 5 vinyl pyridine, N vinyl 2 methyl piperidine, and N vinyl morpholine. The magnetic recording medium obtd. in such a manner exhibits the good electromagnetic conversion characteristics and has the decreased triboelectrostatic charge at the time of traveling in a magnetic recorder and, therefore, the adhesion of dust and dirt to the medium is decreased and the drop-outs are decreased. In addition, the excellent still durability is obtd.
