PURPOSE:To efficiently transfer data at high speed as well by counting the number of detected continuous same data patterns, and sending one character of the continuous data pattern and the counted number to an input/output device. CONSTITUTION:A data transfer device 1 is connected to a main storage device 2 and the input/output device 3. Then, that the continuous same data pattern is contained in the data, transferred from the main storage device 2 to the input/output device 3 through a data buffer 11 and a selector 15 is detected by a relative data register 12. The number of the continuous same data patterns, detected by the relative register 12, is counted by a data counter 14, and the continuous same data pattern and the number, counted by the data counter 14, are transferred to the input/output device 3. Thus, the data can be transferred efficiently and at high speed as well.
