<p>PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the capacity of a battery by removing part of the clad layer of an optical fiber to form a detector, and connecting a light emitting element to one end of the optical fiber and a light receiving element to its other end. CONSTITUTION:Part of the clad layer 5b of an optical fiber 5 is removed to form a detector 6. A light emitting element 7 is connected to one end of the optical fiber 5 and a light receiving element 9 which converts light into an electric signal is connected to its other end. The light generated in the light emitting element 7 is introduced into the optical fiber 5 and transmitted to the detector 6. When the detector 6 is immersed in the electrolyte 2 of a battery, the light passing through the detector 6 is decayed in proportion to the specific gravity of the electrolyte 2. The decayed light is introduced into the optical fiber 5 again and transmitted to the light receiving element 9 and converted into an electric signal. The capacity of the battery can therefore be detected.</p> |
