PURPOSE:To always form a distinct copy image by applying a bias voltage to a member to be electrified, simultaneously with an AC voltage or by delaying it, and interrupting the AC voltage simultaneously with the interruption of the bias voltage or by delaying it. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with electrode 1a for electrification and electrode 1b for transfer and in the case of transferring a toner 25 to a member to be transferred 24, a photosensitive drum 2 is rotated in the direction as indicated with an arrow A by a driving motor, and the member 24 to which the toner has been transferred is carried in the direction as indicated with an arrow B and a copy image is obtained. In this case, an AC voltage is applied at least simultaneously with an operation of the driving motor or by delaying it, and also, the driving motor is stopped simultaneously with the interruption of the AC voltage or by delaying it. In such a way, a state that only the bias voltage is applied is not generated, therefore, it is prevented that a bias elec trode is contaminated due to sticking of a suspended matter, a scattered toner, etc.
