PURPOSE:To prolong the service life of a display means and to eliminate the need for replacing operation which is high in frequency by operating a power source controlling means according to the output of a measurement result gathering means and turning on and off a display operation means automatically only when necessary. CONSTITUTION:The output signal of a detecting means 1 fitted to a powering-on/off device main body and the output signal of an on/off device controlling means 11 are inputted to a measuring means 2, whose output is inputted to the measurement result gathering means 3; and the result of the means 3 is outputted and displayed on the display operation means 4. Further, a power source controlling means 5 which turns on and off the power source automatically is fitted to the means 4 and the operation of the means 5 such as the disconnection of the power source is performed automatically with the output of the means 3. Further, the means 5 is able to select an automatic start and stop mode or manual start and top mode with a changeover switch. Consequently, the means 4 can be started and stopped automatically with a changeover switch. Consequently, the means 4 can be started and stopped only when necessary, and a display means such as cathode-ray tube is not used continuously for a long period.
