PURPOSE:To record information complete for a postscript recording in a postscript area and record information required for updating in a rewriting area by providing the postscript area and the rewriting area in a recording medium and a cartridge for storing this recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The cartridge in which the recording medium having the postscript area 10 composed of sectors formed by a photosensitive recording member in which the information can be recorded only once and the information can be repeated; repeatedly reproduced is stored and the cartridge 9 provided with a non-volatile semiconductor memory as the rewrite enabling area 9a in which the information can be repeatedly recorded and reproduced is used. The recording and reproducing means 8 of the information of the postscript area 10 and the recording and reproducing means 7 of the information of the rewriting area are provided. Thereby, the information such as a directory or an index which cannot be recorded in the postscript area 10 can be recorded in the rewriting area 9a.
