PURPOSE:To improve productivity spirally forming recording layers consisting of bismuth-substd. magnetic garnet on a disk-shaped hard substrate and providing the function of rugged grooves for optical guiding to said layers. CONSTITUTION:The recording layers 1 consisting of the bismuth-substd. magnetic garnet (Bi:RIG) are spirally formed on the disk-shaped hard substrate 2 and are provided with the function of the rugged grooves for optical guiding. Since this recording medium is made into the structure formed with the recording layer 1 consisting of Bi:RIG as the rugged grooves for optical guiding, there is no need for forming the grooves directly on a glass substrate 2. The medium is easily manufactured by forming the grooves for optical guide at the time of a heat treatment for crystallization, by which the productivity is improved. In addition, this medium has the performance equiv. or superior to the performance of the medium formed by using the grooved glass substrate.
