PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sintered body which has excellent uniformity, heat resistance and strength and is useful for high-temp. high-strength structural members of turbines, etc., by impregnating Si in a molding obtd. by mixing specific SiC powder and carbon powder, etc., and subjecting the molding to a siliconization treatment. CONSTITUTION:A raw material powder mixture is obtd. by mixing the SiC powder having <=20mum max. grain size and <=5mum average grain size and carbon powder such as carbon black or material which is carbonized by thermal decomposition (e.g.: phenolic resin). This raw material powder is then molded by a die press, etc., to obtain the desired molding. The resultant molding is placed at some spacing from Si powder in a vacuum or inert gaseous atmosphere or the molding is embedded in the powder mixture composed of the Si powder and Si3N4 powder and is heated to >=1,400 deg.C, by which the Si is impregnated into the molding and the carbon in the molding is siliconized. The high-strength SiC type sintered body thus produced. |
