PURPOSE:To improve critical current and mechanical strength of an oxide superconductor by incorporating each oxide of Al, Mg, Si, and Ag into powder of a starting material which generates a superconductive oxide by heat treatment or has already superconductivity. CONSTITUTION:For example, starting material powder (99.99% purity, about 10mu mean particle size) consisting of BaCO3, Y2O3, and CuO, prepd. to have a compositional ratio corresponding to (Y0.4Ba0.6)3Cu3O7, having superconductivity when it is transformed by heat treatment to oxide, is mixed intimately. A specified amt. of Al2O3 is added to the powder mixture, and mixed further satisfactorily by stirring. Obtd. powder mixture is pressed by hydraulic pressure to form pellets of a specified shape, and the pellets are sintered by heat treatment. By this method, an oxide superconductor having larger critical current and mechanical strength than the conventional superconductor is obtd. |
