PURPOSE:To facilitate the manufacture of a rocker arm in which a part of a chip member adapted to make into slide-contact with a cam shaft is embedded in the body of the rocker arm by a casting measure, by forming the chip member with a base leg having a stationary part and a projection, and a ceramic chip which are jointed together. CONSTITUTION:A rocker arm is formed in such a way that a ceramic chip member 2 is secured to one end part of a body 1 made of cast aluminum alloy or the like, by an internal chip process. In this arrangement the chip member 2 is jointed thereto with a base leg 6 and a ceramic chip 5, integrally by means of an adhesive. The base leg 6 is formed therein with a secured part 6a and a projection 6b, and is formed of an iron round rod or the like, The external shape of the secured part 6a is formed so as to correspond to the external shape of the chip 5, and the external dimensions are made to be substantially identical with those of the chip 5. Further, the projection 6b is formed so as to have a circular cross-sectional shape or the like, the outer periphery thereof being cut out to form a rotation checker 6c.
