PURPOSE:To improve recording sensitivity and preservable stability by forming respectively protective layers of protective films having multi-layered structure to the film thicknesses which are not smaller than the film thickness of the protective film adjacent to a magneto-optical recording layer side and forming >=1 layers among these layers to a large thickness. CONSTITUTION:The protective layers 2(n)-2(1) are formed of thin films consisting of SiO, ZnS, Si3N4, etc., on a substrate 1. The layers 2(n)-2(2) are formed to the film thicknesses equal to or larger than the film thickness of the layer 2(1) adjacent to the magneto-optical recording layer 3 side and >=1 layers thereof are formed always to the large thickness. The protective layers 2(1)'-2(n)' having the structure similar to the structure of the protective layers 2(1)-2(n) are formed on the layer 3 and a reflecting layer 4 is formed thereon. Suppression of thermal diffusion and relieving of stresses are thereby enabled and the recording sensitivity and preservable stability are improved.
