PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of a gap between the upper edge of a liner and the upper wall of a cylinder by providing a support member at the lower end of a liner coupled in each cylinder for energizing and supporting the liner upward in the cast construction wherein a cylinder part and a head part are made monolithic with each other. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder block 1 of mono-block construction cast monolithic with a head part 1a and a cylinder part 1b has also a crankcase 1c bolted to the lower surface of the cylinder part 1b. In this cylinder part 1b, a cylinder 3 is formed and a liner 4 is coupled thereto. In this case, a collar part 5 bulging in a peripheral direction is formed at the lower end of the liner 4 and the lower part of the collar part 5 is formed to have a slope 5a inclining to the lower side of the liner 4 at the predetermined angle (a). And below the collar part 5 is fitted a retainer ring 7 of nearly C-shape as a support member having a slope corresponding to said slope 5a and comprising a spring steel always giving an expansion force in a peripheral direction.
