PURPOSE:To always maintain a favorable operating property by operating a correcting quantity relating to a fuel property after the change of fuel and correctingly operating the controlled variable on the fuel by this correcting quantity, at the time of detecting the change of fuel from a standard fuel to a heavy fuel or a light fuel at the time of feeding. CONSTITUTION:An operating means 21 operates a controlled variable (air-fuel ratio or ignition timing) relating to combustion based on the detected value of the operating condition of an engine. Also, when it is judged by a judging means 23 that fuel feeding into a fuel tank is carried out from the output of a fuel remaining quantity detecting means 22, a judging means 25 judges whether the fuel is changed from a standard fuel to a heavy fuel or a light fuel based on the detected value of a factor which is varied with the difference in volatility and from whether the factor is within a defined range. And, when the fuel is judged changed, the correcting quantity relating to the fuel property after the change is operated by an operating means 26, and the controlled variable is corrected according to this correcting quantity by an operating means 28 at a transient time.
