PURPOSE:To reduce the laser beam machining time by changing each scanning distance of the relative scanning in the X directions of a laser beam machining head according to the width in the X directions at the position in the Y direction of a machining area to omit the vain scanning at an unmachining area. CONSTITUTION:When a magnetic sensor 17 detects a rod 22 to be detected by the movement in the X directions of an X table 12, the X table 12 is moved reversely in the reverse direction to the X directions and a laser beam is projected when a pattern sensor detects an engraving pattern. Then, when a magnetic sensor 16 detects the rod 22 to be detected, the X table 12 is moved reversely in the X directions and a Y table 6 also steps by the prescribed distance. Since the distance between both the magnetic sensors 16 and 17 which is a limiter of the travel of the X table 12 becomes shorter according to the stepping of the Y table 6, in other words, according to the width of the machining area 24, the scanning distance in the X directions of the laser beam machining head also becomes shorter accordingly. The scanning in the X directions of the laser beam machining head is performed on the machining area 24 and not performed on the other unmachining area, so the laser beam machining time is reduced. |
