PURPOSE:To cool a hot billet in a non-oxidization condition to prevent the deterioration in surface qualities such as cracks, etc., by using the cooling water added with a specified vol.% of at least one kind or >=two kinds of alcohols in the liquid state at the room temp. CONSTITUTION:As the alcohol, for example, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, etc., in case it is liquid at the room temp., any alcohol is usable. Furthermore, one kind or the blend of >=two kinds of alcohols may be used. Next, the addition rate of alcohol into water may be at least >=0.2vol.% though it is dependent upon the temp. of the hot billet. Furthermore, the temp. of the billet is regulated to >=700 deg.C, because if it is too low, the thermal decomposition of the alcohol is not performed quickly and its effect is reduced. The higher the temp. of the billet, the smaller the addition rate of the alcohol.
