PURPOSE:To change the reduction ratio of a head feeding motor in stepless and arbitrarily corresponding to each mode operated at high speed generally and to remove shock due to a change gear operation, by providing a pair of large and small rollers whose mutual contact position is varied in an axial direction. CONSTITUTION:In the ordinary feeding mode of an optical head 6, a large controller 22 is raised upward by driving a linear actuator 25 via an arm 24, the, a small gear 15 and a large gear 23 are engaged with each other. And when a voltage is applied on a motor 13, the torque of the motor is decelerated based on a prescribed reduction ratio via the gears 15 and 23, and is transferred to a spline shaft 20, and a pinion 26 is rotated, and the rotation is transmitted to a rack 27. And the optical head 6 is fed in the radius directio of a disk 4 along a guide shaft 5. Meanwhile, in a fast search mode, the controller 22 is moved downward via the arm 24, and the engagement between the gears 15 and 23 is disengaged by the movement of the controller 22, and the controller 22 is guided on the shaft 20 in a state where it is always brought into contact with a small controller 14, and is moved upward and downward in the axial direction.
