PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of operation by a method in which a sensor is attached to the projecting portion of a weight, and the height of rubble mound top is automatically measured from detection signals of a beam oscillating station provided on a place remote from the projecting portion. CONSTITUTION:In the leveling work of underwater rubble mound in which the top of rubble is leveled off by repeating the drop of a weight 18, a beam oscillating station is provided on a place remote from the weight 18, and a sensor 62 to detect the incoming position of horizontal beam is attached to the projecting portion 1 of the weight 18. The height of rubble mound top is automatically measured from detection signals of the sensor 62, and on the basis of the results of the measurement, the leveling of the mound is made. The number of workers can thus be reduced, and the efficiency of operation can be raised.
