PURPOSE:To improve rigidity and unify a temperature distribution at the time of cooling by connecting monolithically a plurality of cylinder bores in the array direction thereof and casting a cast iron plate into the side wall of the cylinder bore in a direction orthogonal with a cylinder array direction. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder block 1 in the array of cylinders at one side of a V-type 6-cylindered engine is made of an aluminum alloy and a cast iron liner 5 is coupled to the inner surface 3 of each cylinder bore side wall. In this case, a pair of cast iron plates 4 formed to have an approximately semi-circular shape is cast into the cylinder bore side wall 3 located in a direction orthogonal with the cylinder array in such a way as to surround a space outside the cylinder liner 5. A water jacket 6 for running cooling water is so formed outside the cast iron plates 4 as to surround both sides 1a of the cylinder array of the cylinder bore 2. |
