There is a measuring device for flocs 14 in a stream in a pipe 2, in which a measuring arrangement comprising a radiation transmitter and a radiation receiver 7 and with the radiation running at right angles to the stream is connected up. In this case, it is desired to know if the size of the flocs may be determined by a simple method and quickly. This is achieved, in that for use in a delivery pipe 2, a measuring channel 12 having a triangular cross-section is provided, which is open on one cross-sectional side and forms an angle 13 < 90@ therewith, and whose cross-sectional area relative to the delivery pipe cross-sectional area is small, in that the measuring device 9, 7 is arranged with the radiation 10 running at right angles to the closed channel side, and in that the measuring device 9, 7 is designed to determine the brightness distribution along a line 24 extending from the angle 13 to the open side. The measurement device determines a step change in brightness at the transition from the floc to fluid in the stream on the side of the floc facing the channel angle. The step change in brightness lies at a specific distance from the channel angle according to the size of the flock. <IMAGE>
