A heater plug contains a heating element (2), whose one end is connected to the closed end of a metal tube (1), and a resistor element (3) with a high positive temperature coefficient that is connected to the other end of the heating element (2). The heating element (2) and the resistor element (3) are connected in series, and packed into an insulating powder in the interior of the metal tube (1). The heating element (2) is formed by a helix of a metallic high-resistance material that has a negative temperature-resistance coefficient. About one quarter to one third of the overall length of the control resistor element (3) is located in a region of the metal tube (1) that is surrounded by a metal housing (6). The metal tube (1) is fastened to the end region (6b) of the housing (6) by a weld (7). <IMAGE>
