PURPOSE:To prevent the degradation of image quality even in case of the change of the shutter speed by setting the phase difference between a start pulse and the next start pulse to the time width or shorter of a vertical flyback time. CONSTITUTION:If the phase difference between start pulses 1032 and 1031, namely, the signal storage time is changed to tau1(tau-tau2<TVBL) when scanning is performed in a field (1) so that the signal storage time is tau2, the signal storage time is set to taua(taua=tau2+DELTAtau) in a field (2) and is set to taub(taub=taua+DELTAtau) in a field (3) to gradually approach tau1, and the signal storage time is set to tau1(tau1-taub<=TVBL) in a field (4). Thus, reset scanning from the first line is not started again before reset scanning from the first line to the n-th line of a light receiving part 102 is completed, and the luminance signal on a monitor image is uniform.
