PURPOSE:To especially obtain the vivid background on a recorded image by changing the driving speed of an image pickup element in accordance with the brightness of an object to adjust the exposure. CONSTITUTION:Since the driving speed of the image pickup element as an image pickup means 101 is variably set by a control means 105 in accordance with the brightness of the object measured by a light measuring means 104 when the object image picked up by the image pickup element is displayed on an electronic view finder as a display means 102 through a supply means 101' at the time of not photographing, a diaphragm can be opened and fixed and the depth of field can be deepened. Since the depth of field of an optical system is deepened at the time of photographing though diaphragm and shutter speeds are variably set, the background of the image as the image pickup result recorded in a storage means 104 is more vivid.
