PURPOSE:To heighten entire flux of light to prevent any flicker and blackening of a glass bulb end by making a shield ring to be in a position far from a discharge electrode before and at the time of starting discharge, while to move after starting discharge so as to enclose the discharge electrode. CONSTITUTION:Before and at the time of starting discharge, a shield ring 7 is in a position far from a discharge electrode 5. When a fluorescent lamp is electrically actuated, a temperature inside a glass bulb 2 rises due to discharge and the thermal sensitive element of the shield ring 7, for instance, a support 6 made of a shape memorizing alloy deforms due to thermal induction for making the shield ring 7 to enclose the discharge electrode 5. Thereby, brightness is high up to the end of the glass bulb since the starting of distance so as to enlarge entire flux of light.
