PURPOSE:To detect a focus in a wide brightness dynamic range by monitoring whether the electric charge storage time is shorter than a prescribed time or not to control the storage capacity of a photoelectric converting means. CONSTITUTION:An electric charge storage time control means 9 which controls the electric charge storage time of a photoelectric transducer array 1, an electric charge storage time monitor means MPD1 which detects whether the electric charge storage time is shorter than the prescribed time or not, and a storage capacity control means 9 which controls the storage capacity of the photoelectric converting means 1 in accordance with the output of the monitor means MP1 are provided. The electric charge storage capacity of the photoelectric converting means 1 is controlled to a large value if the electric charge storage time is shorter than the prescribed time, and the electric charge storage capacity is controlled to a small value if the electric charge storage time is longer than the prescribed time. Thus, the response speed on the high luminance side is reduced to measure the distance in a wider brightness range even if the distance measuring range on the low luminance side is extended. |
