PURPOSE:To enable a lengthy work piece to be machined by making a connection, with a clutch, between two drive screws connected to two drive motors, respectively, which are installed independently in a location opposing each other and which are movable in the Z axis direction. CONSTITUTION:In order to machine a lengthy work piece 17, the work piece 17 is to be rotated by driving headstocks 3, 5 so as to rotate synchronously by making a tool face the work piece 17 while its both ends are supported with the chucks 3b, 5b of the headstocks 3, 5 arranged on the guidance surface 2a of a body 2 in a freely sliding manner. At the same time, the headstocks 3, 5, which are the work piece 17, are to be moved toward the A or B direction and machined while both drive screws 10, 11 are synchronously rotated as drive motors 7, 9 are also synchronously driven with gears 12b, 12c of a clutch 12 engaged to the gears 10a, 11a of the drive screws 10, 11, respectively. A lengthy work piece can be machined in such manner.
