<p>New tackifier for adhesives is made from a polymer obtd. by the cation polymerisation of branched alpha-olefins, of which the number-average mol. wt. (Mn) is 200-40,000 and the glass-transition point is -72 C - 10 deg.C. The branched alpha-olefin is specified to be 4-methyl-1-pentene. The above cation-polymerisation is carried out using as catalyst, alkylaluminium dihalides, aluminium trihalides or alkylhalides, alone or in combination. The cation polymerisation is carried out at a temp. between -80 deg.C and 100 deg.C.</p> |
