PURPOSE:To obtain a high contrast by providing the second liquid crystal layer inserted and held by a substrate whose inner surface is processed to a rugged shape. CONSTITUTION:A twist angle of a liquid crystal cell 29 is set to 200 deg. to the left, and DELTAnd is set to 0.9mum, and twist angle of the second liquid crystal cell 28 inserted and held by rugged shape substrate 2 is set to 200 deg. to the right, and DELTAnd is set to 0.9mum. In this case, the cell thickness allowable width of the cell 29 is about + or -0.1mum, and the same degree as a supertwistic liquid crystal cell. The cell thickness allowable width of the cell 28 which has used the substrate 2 is large such as + or -0.3mum. In such a way, a high contrast can be obtained. |
