PURPOSE:To take advantage of the magnetic characteristics of ferromagnetic chromium dioxide and to improve weatherability by incorporating the ferromagnetic chromium dioxide having CrOOH on the surface into a titled recording medium. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium contains the ferromagnetic chromium dioxide having CrOOH on the surface. The ferromagnetic chromium dioxide having CrOOH on the surface is obtd. by subjecting chromium dioxide (CrO2) to an alcohol treatment. Namely, the alcohol and the chromium dioxide powder are mixed and while the pressure is reduced, this mixture is heated and after the heating is continued for the specified time, the mixture is cooled and is taken out as powder. Advantage is thereby taken of the high-performance magnetic characteristics of the magnetic chromium dioxide and the weatherability which is less deteriorated is obtd.
