PURPOSE:To obtain an empty column which can be produced with a free length at a reduced number of parts by directly joining pipes to be used for connection to a pump or detector and an outside cylinder which is a holding part of a packing material. CONSTITUTION:The pipe 1 is inserted into an outside cylinder 5 and is screwed 2 by using a ferrule 3. After a filter 4 is inserted, the packing material 6 is packed in the cylinder. Furthermore, the filter 4 and the pipe 1 are inserted in this order and the pipe 1 is screwed 2 by using the ferrule 3. Limitations on the inside diameter and length of the column are thereby eliminated and the number of parts is reduced, by which the assembling operation is simplified.
