NEW MATERIAL:The sesquiterpenelactone derivative of formula (R1 and R2 are H or OR'; R' is H, alkyl or acyl). USE:A carcinostatic agent having low side effects and strong carcinostatic action and useful as a remedy for cancers and AIDS. PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced by extracting a higher plant, Gutenbergia, with an organic solvent, fractionating the extract by column chromatography and developing with an organic solvent using preparative thin-layer chromatography.
